What is the most defining thing that happened to them between the age of 1-18?
Landon’s parents were always busy during the day, leaving him mostly alone, especially on summer days. However, this one summer when he was 7 they decided to go to the zoo. He was mesmerized by animals and felt a spiritual connection with them and from then on he wanted to study them more.
Do they have a significant other? Kids? Close personal friends or confidants of note?
Landon doesn’t have a significant other but he has one close friend called Nate. Landon met Nate in college while studying Biology. Nate specializes in studying plants and together they become a great team. Nate is a lot more laid back, funny, extroverted, and weirdly obsessed with touching plants. He’s a great sidekick not only for comedic relief but for Landon’s research on multidimensional communication. From Nate, Landon makes discoveries on how messages are encrypted in natural formations like rocks and leaf patterns.
Landon also has a Parrot that keeps him company in his house. Additionally, his Parrot will become a key figure in receiving messages from other dimensions.
Describe this character’s educational and work background before getting involved with DBRIS. What types of “mainstream” science did they study? What degree(s) do they hold? What organizations did they work for?
Before getting involved with DBRIS, Landon went for a very different route in the pursuit of scientific research– human biology. He rejected the supernaturals, the far-fetched unknowns. He believed that in our world, amid climate change and endangered species, there are enough problems at hand to deal with than these ‘conspiracy theories’. Landon wanted to be a wildlife biologist, going around the world protecting endangered species and ecosystems. He gained a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine and went on the Work for WWF.
Describe the specific events that happened with the mysterious incident that led to their parent's disappearance. How did this event ignite the character's interest in DBRIS and Disco Ball Theory?
Up till the mysterious incidents, Landon noticed strange occurrences in his life. Food tasted weird, dreams became absurd and his mind was constantly bombarded with strange thoughts, as an external signal had interrupted his thoughts. In his lab, he’d notice strange calls from animals he was researching, birds forming strange formations, or them being awfully quiet. He wondered if it had something to do with the season, the air, or potential natural disasters. A few days later his parents disappeared without a trace. He contacted the police or any organisation that was out there that could find them but none of them gave much help. One thing he did know– all the animals’ behavior returned to its natural state. As if nothing has happened. Out of desperation, he went to his parent's place to find contacts with DBRIS, to ask for any clues as to where his parents might be. To his surprise, this was something a lot larger.
Describe the state of the character’s personal life after having devoted themselves to Disco Ball Theory.
Landon became obsessed. It began small with him reading up articles to doing long hours of research late at night. He became very involved in his research and spent most of his time alone or in the lab. His pet parrot keeps him company and Nate does too.
What is the character’s personal philosophy on Disco Ball Theory.
His personal theory is that the Disco Ball Theory is something a lot bigger. He believes that finding theories of multidimensional existence should not be focused on humans but rather on nature– because nature doesn’t lie, only humans do. Landon is working on trying to decipher messages sent through animals and patterns in nature. If someone out there is sending a message, it must be in the slightest, most discrete detail.
What are the character's long-term visions for DBRIS, and how do they intend to achieve them?
Landon’s long-term vision for DBRIS is that the organization should be as secretive as possible until they have a breakthrough discovery and strong foundational support to fend off rivals.
How does this character respond to those who believe Disco Ball Theory is a hoax or pseudoscience?
Landon plays it off cool on the outside, but inside, as the emotional man that he is, he is hurt after all, especially when it comes from people that he cares about. After suffering the loss of his parents, Landon has very little emotional support from the people around him except from Nate. But he still sticks to his belief, to do the best of his ability in the pursuit of answers. It’s not just for his parents but also him and the fate of humanity.
Who does this character work closely with within the organization? Are there any significant friendships or rivalries?
Landon works closely with a girl in the organization named Nancy. They were childhood friends as both their parents worked for DBRIS. Nancy is more focused on the techs, on how to use advanced technology to communicate with other dimensions– an approach very different from Landon. While they have their differences, they form a great team and Nancy helps Landon hack into specific data that he needs. He might’ve developed a Crush on her too.
The largest organization that is against DBRIS is the government– they know something that DBRIS doesn’t and that’s why his parent's disappearances were covered up. Thus, DBRIS must be operated as secretively as possible to not alert the higher powers.
