Collaborate with us to create a a new "International Director" of DBRIS character by detailing their upbringing, life story, and association with DBRIS and Disco Ball Theory.
Name? Orson Vu
Age? 29
Gender? Male
What are the 2-5 unique physical traits or wardrobe choices that define this character’s appearance?
He’s considered short for a man, standing at only 5’3” (1.60 m), which has made him appear to be unassuming to the vast majority upon first meeting. His eyebags make him look perpetually tired, as if he hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in ages. This is a striking contrast against his perfectly combed hair and sharp attires. Most will say they have never seen Orson in anything that’s not a muted colour tailored suit. He also wears a lapel pin in the shape of a tiny disco ball as a subtle nod to the organisation in which he’s working. Orson is clean–shaven.
1-3 unique habits/mannerisms?
He has a tendency to bite his upper lip when faced with a situation outside of his depth. A habit done unconsciously and only came to his notice when the bruise started to form. When he speaks, it’s at a measured and deliberate pace that sounds almost robotic.
What is the most defining thing that happened to them between the ages of 1-18?
His parents’ absent. While his family is well–off and Orson has received only the best (best education that money could offer and anything that he wants)throughout his childhood, his parents are not home most of the time. They are mostly elsewhere, always too busy to spend time with him beside their monthly scheduled family dinner.
Do they have a significant other? Kids? Close personal friends or confidants of note?
No. He’s a very private person and usually kept to himself.
Describe this character’s educational and work background before getting involved with DBRIS. What types of “mainstream” science did they study? What degree(s) do they hold? What organizations did they work for?
He has a doctorate in Physics from a prestigious institution renowned for its groundbreaking contributions to the field of theoretical physics and quantum mechanics. After graduating, he worked at various places before accepting an offer from the university in which he obtained his doctorate. During his time as an associate professor at the University, his research contributed significantly to advance knowledge in theoretical physics, specifically in quantum mechanics.
Describe the specific events that happened with the mysterious incident that led to their parent's disappearance. How did this event ignite the character's interest in DBRIS and Disco Ball Theory?
On the night that’s supposed to be their monthly’s family dinner, Orson drove to his parents’ house to find it empty with all the lights unable to turn on. When he went to his parents lab in the house, for the briefest moment he saw the room in distortion with some sort of ‘portals’ leading somewhere strange. But it disappeared as soon as he blinked. Later, when Orson came back there to further investigate what happened, he found strange fluctuations in electromagnetic fields as well as strong energy emission in the house still. This is the moment when Orson realises what his parents are doing is not madness but something groundbreaking, something that could redefine the boundaries of the science we now know of.
Describe the state of the character’s personal life after having devoted themselves to Disco Ball Theory?
A mess. He has the habit of throwing himself fully into whatever he’s obsessed with and unfortunately, the Disco Ball Theory captivated him so much that he rarely has a chance to think about anything else.
What is the character’s personal philosophy on Disco Ball Theory?
While he has witnessed the very proof that the Disco Ball Theory could be true, he still held some scepticism toward the theory. He felt that since he has a background in quantum physics, he has a duty to get to the bottom of it partly to honour his parents’ legacy, partly because of his credentials.
What are the character's long-term visions for DBRIS, and how do they intend to achieve them?
Orson wants DBRIS to be the leading organisation for research on the Disco Ball Theory. Nonetheless, he realises that this may be hard to do because of them being in the shadows. To attract the brightest minds and necessary funds to further the research, they need to capture the public attention.
How does this character respond to those who believe Disco Ball Theory is a hoax or pseudoscience?
He has been there before and has been proven wrong so he has a sort of ‘they just haven't opened their eyes to the truth yet’ attitude.
Who does this character work closely with within the organization? Are there any significant friendships or rivalries?
Some are not happy with Orson for bringing DBRIS into the public light as they think that this will bring forth interference, loss of privacy, and potential ethical dilemmas into the organisation research. They band together and form a faction and the leader of the faction is the biggest obstacle against Orson.
