SUBJECT: RE: Jenny Banish – DEBRIS: New Director of International Operations
Today, it is my honor to announce that I’m joining DEBRIS as the new Director of International Operations. Together, we embark on a journey to unveil the truth behind the cosmic disco ball of alternate realities. But to understand my true passion for DEBRIS, you need to understand a bit about my father.
He came to America as an immigrant from China. In those days the fastest way out of poverty was to become a doctor. You could turn things around financially in one generation.
And that’s what he did.
He met my mother while they were both college students in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They got married. He became a Professor of Neurology. She gave birth to me.
And we lived near a small airport. I used to watch planes fly over and wonder where they were going. This is what started my fascination with aerospace and engineering.
I took flying lessons with my dad. He had to quit because of work. But I kept going and became a licensed pilot. I still do volunteer work for the Civil Air Patrol.
But life can hit you pretty hard sometimes.
My mother died of cancer when I was a teenager leaving my father and I to fend for ourselves. And I was the only Asian kid in school. So, let’s just say that racism is alive and kicking.
On the rare occasion when life would quiet down, my dad and I would talk about the vastness of space and the potential it could hold. A universe with endless possibilities.
It was the kind of stuff they make comic books from.
But when he shared these ideas with others, I only felt one thing. Embarrassment.
My father was publicly ridiculed for his unusual beliefs. He was branded an outcast for his creative eagerness to explore what lies beyond the horizon of conventional thinking.
It wasn’t until later in my life that I realized you should never be embarrassed of your parent(s) who provided you with everything and are following their passion.
I eventually got a graduate degree in astrophysics. I did some groundbreaking research in galaxy rotation rates that provided some early evidence for dark matter.
But my heart wasn’t in it. So, I left the scientific world. I became an artist.
I toured art fairs and sold my work. I learned that people like beaches. So, I painted them. A lot. The money was scarce but that’s life.
I was back at home for a few weeks in between exhibitions. It was great to catch up with my dad.
Then, fate brought me face to face with DEBRIS - a name whispered in the shadows, known only to my father and a select few.
It was a Saturday night around midnight. It had been a long day. I was antsy to get out. Do something fun. Anything. But my dad always told me nothing good ever happens after 11 pm.
I was sauntering through the law quad which is a popular pedestrian park surrounded by 4 walls. I was on my way to a friend’s flat.
That’s when a couple guys attacked me. I was thinking the worst. But they wanted information about my father. What does he know? What is he doing?
When I didn’t have the answers they were looking for they argued. One guy wanted to kill me.
The other one just wanted to leave.
They finally reached a decision.
I would die.
That’s when my father (who was following me) showed up and scared them away. He said he was following me because he wanted to make sure I made it to my friends. But that was a lie. There were darker forces at play, and he was worried about my safety.
My dad told me there was a renegade division within DEBRIS that wanted to experiment with so-called “alien technology.” And they weren’t willing to wait any longer.
Then he said these same men were from another planet in another universe. They needed a neurosurgeon and some medical equipment. Are you kidding me? I was in shock from the attack. But now he drops a kooky conspiracy theory on me?
If someone has the technology to traverse space-time, are you gonna come to earth and kidnap a neurologist in the 21st Century, and steal their ancient equipment?
While I was filling out the police report my father went to the university lab to pack things up. We were going to leave ASAP.
That was the last time I saw him.
The CSI team said they’d never seen anything like it. A giant hole in the ceiling about 1 meter in diameter burnt clean through like it was a laser.
No signs of a fight.
And a TBI impactor was missing. This is a device used on animals that measures the pressure from an impact on their brain. You lock the animals into it and torture them to death by crushing their skulls with a spike.
The science is sound.
But it’s hard to sleep after you see it.
Now the machine was missing. But the skull-crushing piston tip was left behind. Who would want a useless TBI machine?
The only thing I knew for sure was that my father was gone.
I took that metal spike. I’m pretty sure it’s the last thing my dad touched. He probably removed it so the machine wouldn’t work. That tiny piece of death metal is on a chain around my neck right now.
So, I join you in this cosmic search for the truth not just as a scientist, but as a daughter.
Somewhere out there is the truth about the origins of the universe.
And somewhere in the cosmos there’s a TBI machine with missing a drill bit. And when I find that contraption, I bet you, I’m gonna find my father.
So today, I take a leap of faith driven by my insatiable thirst for understanding. And among the brilliant minds that surround me, I have found a family to share my passion with for the unconventional.
I believe in the potential of DEBRIS, and more importantly, I believe in the power of curiosity to reshape our understanding of the universe.
I once considered my scientific talents wasted. But I have found a new purpose in the pursuit of understanding.
With each step, we're pushing the boundaries of our knowledge, and the scientific community is taking notice.
And I want to make sure I thank astronaut and mission commander Alma Cooke. It was her public mention of me on social media that started this entire process.
I first met Alma at a symposium on using fusion rockets to divert asteroids. Turns out mixing plasma with nuclear fusion in zero G has a few drawbacks.
There was a time not so long ago if an astronaut mentioned alternate realities or dimensions they would have been grounded. It’s a testament to Alma’s courage and leadership to publicly speak about these possibilities. And I look forward to seeing her career lift off and into the stars.
As I stand at the forefront of DEBRIS, I remain steadfast in my commitment to the pursuit of truth. My journey serves as an example to all those who dare to challenge the norms and embrace the wonders that lie beyond.
So, to all the curious minds out there, I invite you to embrace the unorthodox, to question the status quo, and to join me on this extraordinary journey.
I take this new role with DEBRIS filled with great excitement. But I also take it out of atonement to my father, and my never ending quest to find him.
Together, we shall all dance under the cosmic disco ball. With unyielding curiosity,
Jenny
