Collaborate with the Midnight Burger team to develop the visual representation of Caspar, the accidental adventurer and heart of the diner.
My design for Caspar is lead most by two things. The first is Caspar's consistent self-representation as a 'normal' guy visualised by the iconic 'normal guy' blue jeans, navy tee and flannel shirt look. The second is the state he was in when he first entered the diner. I imagine that his hair had been shorter when he went out looking for David and by the time he entered the diner it was at that award middle stage of growth and he's never quite done anything to remedy that. I imagined him as having a large stature because there is a poetic logic in someone being so large, something that might make them feel safe or well positioned on earth, something that could be quite intimidating, suddenly being completely out of their depth or powerless in a comparatively massive universe. Also, I like the idea of Ava calling him shorty in the context of him towering over the gang.
This is a bit more of an intangible thing but I also liked the tension of him believing himself to be a failure as a dad while having a 'dad' visual vibe.
Something about the push and pull of opposites within Caspar spoke to me.
