Collaborate with the creators of Midnight Burger to design the interior of the diner, which functions as a central character in its own right within the story.
Midnight Burger created from Lego using Bricklink Studio. These are all official Lego parts in colors that actually exist. I'm currently in the process of building it physically.
Features of this build include the exterior design to match the show art, a fully detailed interior, and some fun little details from the show. This design fits the Lego modular building standard, so the diner could appear in the middle of any unsuspecting Lego city.
The interior matches a typical diner aesthetic, but you can see a burrito on the counter and a tortilla on the grill. To the left of the kitchen area is the coffee station (hopefully made by Gloria and not Caspar). Through the kitchen to the right is the deep freeze. Inside the deep freeze will be the pocket dimension (still to be built but there will be tiny snow topped mountains, and likely a campfire (unlikely that I can fit a pack of wolves, sadly. If only I could build a real pocket dimension)).
Facing the other way inside you can see Effie and Zebulon's radio, right next to Ava's booth.
Around back we have the dumpster and the ladder to the roof. I have Lief's workbench up there, but there's lots more I want to add (hammock, plasma cannon, laser saw, etc.)
Working within the Lego modular building standard meant making some sacrifices. You can see that the EAT sign had to be moved from the front and the deep freeze creates a wing that doesn't appear in the show art. If I were trying to be as true as possible to the show and a fully realistic building, I could expand the footprint, which would allow me to undo those changes and add some things that are left out. The most obvious omissions are the bathroom/shower and the office/Gloria's room.
I have some minifigure designs in mind using existing Lego parts (plus a little marker to turn a lipstick into a cigarette for Eva), but it would also be possible to design custom minifigs to match the official character designs when those are ready. I'm working on some custom stickers for the "Midnight" in the sign, and possibly one that would say "We open at 6!" for the wall behind the parking lot.
Finally, here's a spaceship I'm thinking should be parked in the parking lot. I could see Verge flying this, and then parking it in the Oregon woods. What do you think?
Thanks for your consideration and I hope you enjoy the design. It's been a lot of fun for me to design and I look forward to soon having the physical build completed.
The next two projects in my queue are the Horizon Motel and the Sheep's Eye Roadhouse. How cool are those three going to look lined up on display?
