Collaborate with the creators of Midnight Burger to design the interior of the diner, which functions as a central character in its own right within the story.
I'm unable to attach images of my architectural models on here as the data is for current projects of clients and that I can't disclose the designs of, but I would be able to show images in person or screenshare over a call if needed. In place of this, for now, I hope this next section can be of use!
So funny story...I've actually already designed a 3D model of the Midnight Burger diner as a personal project/challenge to keep up with my 3D modelling and modelmaking skills! I've 3D printed it and am currently in the process of painting it all. I'm going to share some content of that here but I just want to note that this was designed to be 3D printed at 1:50 scale so the detail only goes as far as the scale would allow and there are a lot of windows to make the interior more easily viewable. I'm not sure what level of detail you're aiming for in the final model but if this feels too simplified I would love to create a more detailed design that is directly intended to be a digital model. That way I can prioritise different aspects that wouldn't have worked in a model designed for 3D print.
I based my design off the main piece of show art, researched into the design of American diners, and re-listened to the show to pick out all the little details that get mentioned like the upright piano, the 'office' deck chairs up on the roof next to Leif's workshop (minus the washer-dryer, I need to add that!), the parmesan, the truck-stop shower, and the pile of space junk next to the bin outside. For it to function better as a digital model, I would want to re-format the layout of the diner to make more sense in a real-life context as opposed to it fitting onto a little display board. Some little things I've already thought about are to move the piano to a more central location as it would make more sense for performances, remove windows to add artwork and neon signs across the interior walls, make the kitchen feel more restaurant-y, and have the bathroom in a different location (maybe accessible from outside?). I would be happy to provide a sketch of some of this if that would help but would also love to incorporate your visualisation of the diner as well.
I did a lot of research into fun theories of liminal spaces, heterotopias, structuring, colours and the personification of settings when I wrote my university dissertation on the characterisation and feeling of 'aliveness' of locations within Gothic media (this might be way too in-depth but I like having a bit of meaning behind my designs) which I looked back on for envisioning the diner as it's completely an alive and personified space and absolutely it's own character within the story which I think should reflect in its visual design.
Another thing to note: some of the small models, like the piano, radio, and space junk, were downloaded from other creators as this was originally just for personal use, but if you chose me to work with you on this project, everything that would go into the new diner model would be entirely my own modelling work.
I'm also adding a couple of images in here of the current state of my physical model just for reference of the colour scheme I've been using and so you can see how the render translates into the physical space.
Please let me know if I can provide any further information. My email is caoimhepaige@outlook.com if you need it to contact me. And thank you for providing this opportunity to the Midnight Burger community! I can't wait to see all the characters come to life!
