Collaborate with the creators of The Arrival to compose the thematic score that will underscore the journey of Allister Adams and his family as they navigate the dangers of a superstorm disguised as an impending alien arrival.
In my approach to the score, I would use scifi/synthesizer sounds to establish the futuristic setting. The mystery of the evolutionaries and all that we don't know yet after reading arrival, could be narrated by using hybrid sounds, I thereby mean sounds and melodies that kind of are ambivalent, shifting between orchestral, ethnical, analog and digital sound spaces, helping to expand the "typical" technical scifi setting by a more analog, more humanized more earthly vibe. For emotional passages I would reccomend using hybrid strings (processed or layered with aforementioned sounds) together with the piano. When provided with more background information, we could also think about creating leitmotifs to establish the different characters, places and events, this can help characterize these characters non-verbally and is especially helpful when you are thinking about realising other parts of the Lost Children Of Andromeda world on a larger scale. Binding the story together by musically maintaining the identities throuout all parts. In my short demo, that I made after reading arrival, I wrote and action piece using synth arpeggios to highlight the urgency and action. The distorted 808 bass narrates a otherworldly threat. As described above, I used strings and piano to create a calmer, more emotional part. The added horns are also a typical orchestration choise for scifi films and help furthermore create importance and epicness.I'm not sure yet, how this platform handles the interactivity and adaptability of the music. But with my experience in game music design and programming I am confident to develop methods to create organic transitions and highlight events musically in the moment needed.
