Collaborate with the creator of Devil May Care to compose the theme song for the opening title sequence and additional thematic music throughout the series.
In the spirit of twisting traditional Christian iconography into a modern and satirical setting, I will take inspiration from traditional church music and turn it on its head. In early counterpoint, fifths and octaves were considered to be perfect intervals, and were prioritized; tritones were the most dissonant and were literally referred to as the devil's interval. In order to keep the piece approachable for the non-musician, I will not completely flip baroque counterpoint on its head, but I will utilize these opposing intervals to represent the stereotype reversal of Valeria and Rangi. I will also prioritize orchestration. Angels are often associated with flutes and harps, whereas the violin is the classic devil's instrument (think The Devil Went Down to Georgia). By giving the latter a more gentle part and the former a line that's more jarring and demanding, I will represent the personality of each character while also reflecting their role as angel and devil, respectively.
For your reference is the finale of an orchestra piece I have been working on. It has not been fully mixed. The mood of Devil May Care is, of course, completely different in mood, but the tonality and techniques may have similarities.
